The news broke during Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day matchup between the Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks. During the live broadcast on Peacock, Atlanta native and host Maria Taylor announced that the franchise will reintroduce the jerseys honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for the 2026-27 season.

The MLK jersey first debuted during the 2020-21 season as a "City Edition" kit and immediately became one of the most sought-after designs in NBA history. It was the first time a league uniform prominently featured the initials of an individual on the chest, marking a landmark partnership between the Hawks, Nike, the NBA, and the King Estate.
