Los Utah Jazz rendirán homenaje a Frank Layden con un parche conmemorativo para la temporada 2025-26.

The Utah Jazz announced today that they will honor the late Frank Layden, a franchise icon who served as head coach, general manager, and president, by wearing a special commemorative jersey patch throughout the entire 2025-26 NBA season. The patch is a tribute to Layden's immense impact on both the franchise and the state of Utah.

The Commemorative Patch:

The primary patch, which will be worn by all players, features Layden's first name, "FRANK," in white lettering on a simple black band. It will be situated on the left shoulder strap of all player jerseys and is set to debut in the preseason game against the Houston Rockets on October 8. In addition to the player patch, Jazz coaches and other team personnel will wear a special "1" circle patch on their warm-ups, a nod to Layden's No. 1 jersey which the franchise retired in his honor in 1989.

In the team's announcement, Jazz President Jim Olson stated, “Few people have had a greater influence on the Utah Jazz than Frank Layden. His leadership, humor, and humanity shaped the trajectory of the Jazz franchise and left a lasting mark on Utah. Wearing this patch is more than a symbol – it is a way for our players and coaches to carry his legacy with them every time they take the floor.”

Layden played a pivotal role in shaping the franchise when it relocated to Salt Lake City in 1979 and served as head coach from 1981 to 1988. In 1984, he became the only person in NBA history to be named Coach of the Year, Executive of the Year, and win the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in the same season. Layden passed away on July 9, 2025, at the age of 93.
